This asynchronous course explores how awe can serve as a powerful force in teaching and
learning. Grounded primarily by Dacher Keltner’s research on awe, students examine how this
emotion shapes curiosity, attention, empathy, and meaning-making. Complementary readings
from Raising Awe-Seekers, The Nature Fix, and “Help Your Child to Wonder” provide practical
and environmental perspectives. Through readings, field experiences, and reflective practice,
participants design an “Awe Unit” for their teaching context.
